Why is Liberal Arts the most popular program of study at LaGuardia?

A Liberal Arts education provides students with a comprehensive foundation in language and literature, humanities, the social sciences, mathematics and the sciences.

Liberal Arts students learn how to reason critically, communicate effectively and make connections across extensive (and, often, very different) fields of knowledge. They broaden their vision of the world and cultivate new interests and talents.

At some point during their course of study, either at LaGuardia or a senior college, students select a specific major within Liberal Arts that reflects their interests or career goals.

At LaGuardia, there are 10 Liberal Arts majors:

* Deaf Studies
* Humanities (includes courses in Art Appreciation, Art History, Chinese, Commercial Photography, Computer Art, Critical Thinking, Dance, French, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Music, Philosophy, Portuguese, Spanish, Studio Art)
* International Studies
* Labor & Community Organizing
* Latin American Studies
* Mathematics
* Media Studies (includes courses in Film & Media)
* Science (includes courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
* Social Sciences (includes courses in Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology)
* Theater & Communication


Transfer

Liberal arts students should plan to transfer and earn a Bachelor’s degree.

LaGuardia graduates who have planned their program carefully can often transfer to 4-year colleges as juniors.

Colleges that you’re considering for transfer may have different requirements, so you should meet regularly with a LaGuardia academic advisor and Transfer Services, starting as early as possible.

* Planning to earn a Bachelor’s degree
And
* Interested in studying a broad range of subjects in language and  literature, humanities, the social sciences, mathematics and the sciences and intending to pursue a career that doesn’t require majoring in a technical subject, like computers or engineering.

2 To apply for medical school, students need to complete college courses in physics, biology, mathematics, English, and inorganic and organic chemistry. They are not required to major in specific subject.
