Nursing finds its origins in the very earliest
of times when referring
to
a nursing mother, as in the
"wet nurse." It comes from the Latin
word,
"nutrire" which means "to
nurture." The English word, "nurse," used
first in
the 13th century, went through many
changes before it became the
word
we recognize today. Earlier
spellings of the word were "norrice,"
"nurice"
and "nuourice." Before
the 20th century, when the term "nurse" was
used in
non-English writings to refer to
providers of health care,
especially during
wartime, those caretakers were
typically men.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing SCR200 4 Credits

Trends in Nursing SCR260 1 Credit
Parent-Child Health Nursing SCR270 8 Credits

Upon entering the clinical phase of the Nursing
Program, the student
should be able to complete
the program in four
twelve-week sessions within LaGuardia's
"enhanced" semester academic
calendar (Fall I and Spring I =
2 years). There are presently no generic nursing
courses offered
during the six-week sessions (Fall II and Spring
II). The only RN
course offered, is the introductory course
(SCR100, Bridge Course) in
the LPN to RN Advanced Standing Pathway which
threads qualified LPNs
meeting the
LPN to RN Advanced Standing
Pathway Criteria (See
NASLPN.htm.) |
